Run over a skunk

Thursday night after church.

I was driving on White Ave by Fairplex and I saw something out of the corner of my eye, it looked like a tail.

Mel: Mom, I think I hit something

Mom:  No, I didn’t see anything.

3 seconds later this horrid smell penetrates the atmosphere.

Simultaneously we look at each other…

Me: Yeah, I hit something Mom: You hit a skunk!

My mom then proceeds to call my brother, sister, and dad. She also calls Tita Cindy since none of the above were answering their phones.

In my 5-6 years of driving I have never hit anything.  I was bound to do it sometime, I suppose.

Oh, my mom did not allow me to park in the driveway. Saturday when we were leaving for Delano the car still had a skunk smell.

Wonder if it still smells.

I’ll let you know.

Yes, I saw a girl get hit by a car

Bob  Jones.

Ryan, Kendra, and I were walking back from lunch Saturday. We were in front of Creel when it all happened in slow motion.

A girl was walking across the street in front of Nell Sunday. The car was coming towards her (in our direction). I understand this will be confusing so bear with me if you must.

The car hit the girl and the girl spun around in the opposite direction of where the car was heading towards. (360 degree turn) Her shoes came off thru the ordeal. She bounced off the car, somersaulted on the asphalt, and in one swoop grabbed her shoes and stood up again.

At this point everyone is running to the “scene of the crime” (us included of course) Ok, so I was walking briskly I don’t run.

She was walking back towards Nell Sunday and swooped towards the ground. Luckily, one of the guys caught her before she hit the sidewalk.

She was a Senior and graduation was next week. Poor thing. She hobbled across the stage with a cast on her leg and a sling around her neck for her broken collar bone and right arm (if I remember correctly.)

Crazy, huh?

Just signed my life away for a month…

At least I hope I can commit to no life for a month. We’ll see how that goes.

What did I do? I just registered to take the REG part of my CPA exam. July 27th at 1:00pm. It’s like divine appointment cannot miss.

I’m halfway through the course. Lord willing, next week I’ll be finishing REG 4.

My goals:

  • Mon-Wed nights
  • 2 hours of lecture
  • read through chapter went over that day
  • gather flashcards pertaining to subject
  • do 10 questions each night from 4 modules= 40 questions
  • Saturday
  • If need be, repeat lectures ( approx 4 hr sections)
  • Do each regulation’s simulation (1 hr)
  • Look over items I’m struggling with
  • Finish one whole module (pages vary from 2-10)
  • Do simulations/software questions
  • Throughout the week, carry flashcards EVERYWHERE I GO.

Want to help me out?

  1. Ask me at the end of each week how many hours I’ve been studying.
  2. If you see me around ask me for my flashcards and quiz me
  3. Let’s go to Panera, Library, or B & N for studying.
    • I mean it when I say studying

Welcome to My Randomness

Last Friday as I was driving home, some driver was drifting into my lane. So what did I do?! I honked OF COURSE! What did he do? Get upset at me. Apparently, he wanted to cut me off not accidentally drift and apologize for it. What else did he do?! As he exited the freeway he decided to flip me off. Well, excuse me, if you put your blinker on and maybe not cut me off would I let you into my lane. Goodness gracious! People need HELP!

Monday: Some creepo driver dude trying to talk to me through my open window.

Situation solved: Put the window up.

If ever trying to hit on me-don’t you dare do it during rush hour. I am sitting in my car after sitting for 8+ hours at work. If you have nothing funny to say do not say anything at all. Just a thought, I’m pretty sure I come across as a type of person that does NOT want you to talk to her. Just saying…

Fortune from Sunday’s buffet meal:

A beautiful, smart, and loving person will be coming into your life.

Just curious, by beautiful, do you mean a gorgeous looking hunk of a man? And ‘will be coming’…I know that means in the future but could you maybe put a limit on the time frame? Would you mind stating if this person will be staying for a long long time?!

Thank you.

I’m on a spending fast until Chicago. I haven’t spent money on anything besides gas and snacks-which have amounted to like $5 in the past 2 weeks. Pretty good huh?! The only time I will break my fast is when I have already planned out how much I’m going to spend, where I will spend it, and on what the money will be spent on. As in today, I am in dire need of some business slacks that actually fit me! So I am going to purchase 2 pairs from Ann Taylor-I have a $40 gift card. Hopefully they have a sale because my budget today is $50.

Wednesday: Horseback Riding

Thursday Ensenada, Mexico

Enjoy the slideshow. We went horseback riding on the beach. Got caught in the rain :). The most awesome experience ever.

Afterwards we went to the La Bufadora for some shopping-ponchos, hammock, t-shirts, coconut, bracelets, postcards, magnets, blankets, etc.

Amang’s Father’s Day

Saturday I drove to Delano to meet my family there. I got to stop by Sonics-got myself some popcorn chicken & strawberry limeade. Yummy!

It was even yummier that it was happy hour-my drink was less than a dollar 🙂

No one was home at my relative’s home when I arrived in Delano. Luckily they leave a key out to enter the house. Let’s just say I had 5 different keys and 4 different locks to open before entering the house. I told my cousin “If a murderer was chasing me I wouldn’t even try to get into your house-there’d be no point”

Around 5pm I drove to Amang’s convalescent home. My family was sitting around. Dar was taking pictures, of course. My Lolo loves pictures, probably where us Torres’ get the love of being in pictures from.

My grandpa is 82 years old. Things have changed since Enang has died, his wife. She’s been gone for about 8 years now. I suppose losing your spouse does that to you. Albeit, he’s still quite a character to be around.

I gave him a hug and sat on his bed listening to his stories. He looks alot better from when I last saw. I was glad.

Ilocano is a hard language to understand since I didn’t grow up around that dialect. Although, I’ve picked up a few words and phrases along the way and can usually decipher what is being said-only if Amang is talking because he talks slow. Unlike my uncles and aunties who spout off a mile a minute with the volume and tone of the ilocano language!

He was talking about his truck. I remember that truck. He crashed into a ditch once around Christmas time. It was a really nasty green dingy colored truck.

The conversation goes everywhere whenever Amang starts talking. Somehow we ended up telling him we were going to Uncle Jose’s house (Funny story to come about that sometime-I won’t insert it here because it’s unrelated) Anyway, while he is telling his story my dad interrupts him  (because of our prompting) to ask, “What is my name?” Amang stops talking altogether and stares at my dad. My dad is smiling and us siblings start to giggle. We know what’s coming next… His answer: “I forgot”

Through all this his dinner arrives around 6pm. We tell the nurse that brought it in that he doesn’t know our names.. so she asks him… what’s their names? Is this your son… Amang’s answer: No…

Yet, he can remember stuff that’s happened when he was still in the Philippines raising his kids. Once he told us off when the war was going on.

He was a soldier. He and Enang needed to cross a river to get away from the enemy soldiers and the bridge was out. He told Enang, “I will carry you across the river only if you marry me.” She told him “No.” Obviously, she relented, allowed him to carry her across, and married after the war.

Back to his dinner. He told us (nurse included) he was not eating. The nurse left and we tried to coax him to eat. He finally told us why he wasn’t going to eat. He wouldn’t be able to eat later if he ate now. What?! Amang where are you going?!!?

Apparently, we didn’t know he had decided to come with us. Ah, Amang. Both of my grandparents are stubborn-the majority of us cousins have received this trait as well. He was adamant about not eating and coming with us to Jose’s house. Luckily it was still early and he was able to come. Visiting hours are over at 8pm.

Later on when my Dad dropped him back “home.” My dad told us Amang didn’t want him to leave. Nurse to the rescue, sort of, said visiting hours were over and that my dad will be back tomorrow.
Amang: “Ok, bye!”

No, I did not just jump on the bandwagon. My family (extended) are die-hard Laker fans. I remember visiting my grandparents and watching Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones play.

The parade is scheduled for Monday. Could it not be scheduled for Wednesday? I need a little more advance notice. My cousin texted me not 5 minutes after the game was over telling me to pick her up because she’s totally down to going to the parade. My cousin-in-law from SD texted me saying they’re planning a trip up for the parade. Believe me yet? My family loves the Lakers.

It would definitely be something to put on my I have done before I die list… and I only work about 15minutes from downtown. Although, Monday would probably be a good day to go to Pink’s… hm. Just a thought.

I watched Pride & Prejudice last night with the Godinez girls. Just saying, Pride & Prejudice is a book everyone should read. Honestly.

My family went camping to Kachuma lake. I miss them. I wish I was with them. Apparently, they’re planning to stop by Delano to visit my Lolo. I miss him too. Actually, I miss both my grandparents. Sadly, Enang’s been gone for years now and I miss the excitement and amusement she brought to family gatherings. Everything centered around her…

I’ve never seen chewed gum residue at Disneyland….

this is why.

Today, I think I will actually buy pants that fit me. I’m not trying to lose weight anymore just maintaining and toning. Oh, and I’m pretty content with my volleyball team this summer. Although, a big change since I’m not on Mr. Archie’s team. I’ve been on his team every single year except the first year the summer games have started, summer games-LOL.

I’ve been craving curry. I don’t know why. For the past week, I’ve been wanting to have some good yummy curry. Maybe Sunday lunch I’ll treat my dad (family included) to Maxim. Probably not though, my dad loves seafood buffets and it’s the least I could do. I figure it’s cheaper than buying my dad a la-z-boy, which is what he wants. (Relayed info from my mom) So maybe the buffet this Sunday will have curry, I’ll be hopeful.

I’m hanging out with a friend tomorrow-at the Filipino town. LOL. Hopefully he enjoys it. I have a feeling he will. He’s kinda cooky like that.

I see Ben & Ryan soon. According to Ben…”REAL soon”. Both can’t wait. Crazy how I haven’t seem them in a year. Kinda weird feeling. Then I see them again a month later because they’ll both be visiting CALI. I’m excited. I miss my twin!

Still haven’t gone swimming. Poor paulie,

wanted to go Wednesday but I’ve been a real scrooge regarding gas. I put $30 on Sunday I’m hoping it lasts til Monday. We’ll see. That means, I may not be meeting my parents in Delano.

Right now I have animal crackers in my car that I munch on while driving thru traffic. (Thanks alot Ben.)

Cayleigh turned 3 last week. I absolutely love her. She’s so crazy. She most definitely has her own personality. Weird how I’m 19 years older than her. I’m going to miss it when she won’t let me pick her up anymore…

This week consisted of food…

Wednesday at KBF we walked down the street towards McDonald’s and saw this mexican food place. Olivia and I saw Carne Asada fries and California burrito and we were sold.

We had a california burrito in SF and we’ve been trying to look for it ever since. Consider it found!

California Burrito

Carne Asada fries & California Burrito

Carne Asada Fries

We had Pink’s for dinner at KBF. West Hollywood seemed to have more delectable choices-these were decent as well..

Friday for lunch I had sushi. Found this place here.

Spider Roll

Tasted like they fried the crab a little too long but I like how they have caviar with the dish. Definitely added to the flavor.

Salmon Roll

The salmon pieces were big chunks and very fresh. The best salmon rolls I’ve ever had.

Friday night after RU we went to Maxim. I ordered eggplant with szechuan sauce. It was so good! Our foriegn exchange students made this for us once. What they did was fry the eggplant then sautee it with oyster sauce.

Olivia, Jeffrey, Tim and I also ordered drinks…

L to R: Hawaiin passion, rainbow surprise, black cow, and lemon tea.

Olivia's drink: Strawberry ice cream on top of shirley temple drink

Saturday lunch: Sorry Jay but me, Dar and Tita Gail agree we found a place where Famous Daves does not stand a chance. Actually, we attended Dar’s company picnic catered by Canyon City BBQ and they had beef brisket, chicken, potato salad, beans, and biscuits. The meats were tender and juicy. oh… man. it was AMAZING.

From Cayon City Website

Canyon City Menu

Sunday evening Ms. Warner’s foreign exchange students never had a hamburger. We went to Legends. I’ve only been to Legends once in High School. I forgot how big the portions were. I ordered a large Legends Sampler to share with everyone… French fries, zucchini fries, fried mushrooms, and onion rings–they were fried to perfection. The zucchinis and mushrooms were juicy.

Ms Warner cut me a small piece of her carne asada burrito.

Olivia also gave me half of her burger. I didn’t eat it-still in my fridge.

Mushroom swiss burger

At the end of our meal, I brought home 3 plates of leftover food. . .

I don’t think I’ll eat this whole week. Oh and I’m still 100 lbs. LOL

San Diego Weekend

This weekend I attended a Ladies Retreat in National City at Bible Baptist Church.

I got to see Jireh and Jackie! I haven’t seen them in years…

Lunch was awesome-bbq chicken, pancit, lumpia shanghai, and rice. yummy yummy yummy…

The only downside, I was in a complete food coma. I couldn’t concentrate on the speakers and my sole goal was to not fall asleep. ACCOMPLISHED. What did I glean? Sadly, nada…

For dinner, Olivia and I went to Sushi Diner.

My favorite roll was with baked salmon on the outside…ah, I am more than willing to go just for sushi diner. Any takers?

We stayed the night with Pastor Willie Del, Auntie Amy, & Grace!

For Sunday lunch Pastor treated us to New Panda Express Buffet. We tore up the seafood section!

In the evening, Olivia and I attended Pastor Ernie Merritt’s church in Escondido, Fundamental Baptist Church. We stopped at Rally’s for some fully loaded fries.

We also stopped at Jack in the Box to use the restrooms. We discovered the coke factory in a computer. Their soda dispenser was a touch screen computer with you choosing a soft drink, sprite, dr. pepper, coke, dasani flavor, etc. Say you chose sprite, you then had the choice of sprite cherry, sprite raspberry, sprite peach, sprite lime, sprite grape. OH MY WORD! Olivia and I probably spent 15 minutes in front of the computer pressing all kinds of buttons and trying everything! We walked away with vanilla coke and cherry coke.. ah… refreshing!

That evening they paid of their church debt. Such excitement!

Planning a trip down to SD for Sushi Diner, New Panda Express Buffet, and Jack in the Box… any takers?!?!?
