I’m alive!

I know it’s been several weeks since I’ve blogged.

Nothing new.

I’m still loving my job.

I love the people I work with especially my office mate. We get along so well. It’s awesome.

I went to SC/GA at the beginning of this month and need to post my foodie experiences.

I also went to the Georgia Aquarium which was amazing. I loved it.

My ex-bf’s mom let me borrow her car for the whole week which was incredibly sweet of her.

Still going on dates and enjoying it.

Not in a hurry to start dating.

I’m still drinking at least half a gallon of water M-F.

It gets kind of difficult on the weekends since I don’t lug around my half-gallon water bottle wherever I go.

I’m excited for Star Tours.

Oh, I upgraded my Disneyland pass to a Deluxe.

As the Maid of Honor for my cousin’s wedding, I’ve made the invitations for her bridal shower now to print them.

Kung Fu Panda II is coming soon!

Rio is such a cute movie, loved it in 3D.

I’m not enjoying this crazy weather. Sunny, cloudy, rainy, makes me bi-polar just like it!

I went to the Getty Center friday. I ate at the restaurant and walked around the exhibits.

Next time it’ll be the Getty Gardens.

Surprisingly it wasn’t traffic on my way home when I left the center at 5:30ish.

I got home a little before 7pm.

Honestly, Best Buy totally hates me. My laptop is perfectly fine but now my phone doesn’t charge when I plug it in.

I have to plug it in in different ways and move it around different ways to see what makes it charge. And even when I pay attention to how I plug it in it doesn’t really make a difference. It’s completely bi-polar.

I’m enjoying my volleyball class.

On my way to my volleyball class I saw BBG at the intersection waiting to cross as soon as I drove across. WEIRD.

What are the odds?

I must see World Of Color again.

They added Tangled and Pirates 4 to the show.

I miss blogging. I really do.

I think of blogging often.
I think of my readers.

I think of my subscriptions.

I think of my commentors.

Oh how I miss it all.

Life is good. God has been good and he didn’t come back yesterday so I have more days to live for him and get to know him better.

Marc is craving Roscoe I wonder when I’ll be able to go again.

Thanks to the Reich family I now know what book I should purchase, Fountainhead.

Also, I got to test out a nook. Pretty snazzy I like it a lot. Maybe I’ll buy one probably not anytime soon though .

Oh and I’m legit now. I have a key to the building and an access code to set up the alarm for the building.

Pretty cool right? I also have a Staff Id picture and all!

Well, I guess that would be an update of my past 2 months and what I want to do pretty soon.

Until next time and I hope it won’t be several months or weeks til I post again. This was fun. I need to do it more often!

CHRISTMAS: Got to mix things up a bit… Part 3 of 3

Read first post HERE

Read second post HERE

CHRISTMAS DAY.

At Cousin J, Cousin Jo, and Cousin Jul’s house. They are losing their house 😦

The Ladies...

Smiles

Aw, precious ... Their wedding is in July.

Eating

They had time to fall asleep ... lucky!

Now… the purpose of the 3 part post of Christmas day.

The Mystery Machine.

This van used to be ours. I remember car-pooling in that miracle van since 3rd grade. We extended family used the miracle van for all of our excursions. It held ALL of us. In later elementary my dad gave it to my uncle. I completely forgot about the van until it made a miracolous appearance 🙂

Of course we needed to take a picture with it!

Did I mention we love to mimic Forever 21 poses?

Apparently some of them are still on the Forever 21 pose.

For these next pictures… you’re going to see the angle change. In order to get the van with everyone in it and to have the flash actually make an effect on the picture my sister had to place the camera in the middle of the street. By the way, the “town” we were in is called Richgrove; population: 2000 approximate. My cousins happen to live on the last street of the town.

So camera in the middle of the street my aunt is watching for any oncoming cars. It’s supposed to take 3 pictures on self-timer.

Maybe now you know why I’m so random and crazy, kind of 🙂

Welcome to my Randomness XXIV

I’m going to my cousin’s graduation ceremony today…

Congrats Manang Jom!

Graduating from Nursing School

* * * * * * * *

I’m getting off at 12:30. I have an interview at 1. Then out to Bakersfield.

* * * * * * * *

I know it’s the middle of nowhere but that’s where the rest of the fam-bam resides. Perks?! SONICS TIME!

* * * * * * * *

Pitiful, I know. There’s a Sonics in Rancho and in Fullerton. It’s just not the same. I’m hoping I can get there a little before 4pm…

for you know what… HAPPY HOUR! 1/2 on drinks.

* * * * * * * *

I love me my limeade. Ok, moving on. I can eat a burger on a wheat bun. I checked the allergen information.

* * * * * * * *

Pitiful, I know. Yet again. I must find a way! Even though I know I most definitely cannot partake in any tots. 😦

* * * * * * * *

Such sadness. Oh well.

* * * * * * * *

This Saturday commemorates the Holidays. My mom has a work Christmas party at non other than…OUR HOUSE.

* * * * * * * *

I sometimes wonder why everyone loves to have parties at our house. Mind you…our house is not that big. It’s spacious because of the way we assemble our furniture but it’s not big enough for a PARTAY! Only get-togethers 🙂

* * * * * * * *

Nonetheless everyone dooms dons the Torres Residence as party happening central. Oh well. It’s fun and all.. Our parents raised us to be good hosts/hostesses but when it’s all over and done. You party-ers have left.. it’s almost like spring clean-up like non other.

* * * * * * * *

We clean beforehand and clean afterwards.

* * * * * * * *

Wednesday the office closed at 5 instead of the usual 6. I text my sister to see what she was up to. She was just clocking out.

* * * * * * * *

Then she called. FRANTIC. “Will you help me?! I need to write about 50 books.”

Me: Oh no no no. I’m not in school anymore I don’t need to write reviews.

Her: Please! I’ll pay you.

Me: Oh ok how will you pay me back?

Her: I don’t know…but I will!

* * * * * * * *

I hope this child knows that not all older siblings are as kind as I am; to give up my early evening to skim through a few books and write a paragraph on it.

* * * * * * * *

As I was laying in bed telling a friend of mine what amazing deed I had done… It hit me! How she was to pay me back. Do my chores for a month.

* * * * * * * *

Next evening. She expected me to help her again. I told her the payment terms. She wanted three weeks. I would not back down. I’m not a business major to be steered any which way!

* * * * * * * *

A month it is! I had won. Ah hahahaha I win. Can you hear Izma from the Emperor’s New Groove? You know where she’s a cat and she wins. Upon her evil laugh and ‘I win’ statement she’s falling …

* * * * * * * *

Anyway! I don’t do chores for 3 months. Yet, I did wash dishes last night and cooked dinner for the family.

* * * * * * * *

Only an hour til I leave. Oh the brilliant Melanie forgot her gps. Off to google maps.

* * * * * * * *

I have to anticipate any location I may want to visit. Oh I didn’t know what to wear for the weekend so I have 3 different outfits to choose from complete with a complementary scarf.

* * * * * * * *

I have a feeling I’m going to buy something else to wear. I’m not particularly fond of what is laying out in my car right now.

* * * * * * * *

Here it goes again. Having to find somewhere to change into interview appropriate attire.

* * * * * * * *

Til next Friday 🙂

* * * * * * * *

Oh and check out the MeMe

“Well my mom said!”

I’ve been on the new employment radar…

Lately I’ve been losing weight.

Actually, I’ve lost weight and I’m not trying to purposely lose anymore. I’m more on the maintenance side of the weight issue.

A few days ago my mom said… “People don’t like it when you’re too skinny. They won’t hire you.”

For the record, I eat. I love eating but my list of untouchable foods encompasses a lot of the food my family eats daily. I’m stuck with veggies and rice.

By the way, they had salmon last night. My mom is planning to cook more salmon tonight. What will I get stuck with? Brussels Sprouts. Don’t get me wrong, I love veggies! My mom also knows if I don’t have anything to eat, I won’t eat. It’s a lose-lose situation for mom when she’s trying to get me to gain weight. They love their soy sauce 🙂

Welcome to my Randomness XVII

I’m in interview overload at the moment. I interviewed with Metro for an AP Clerk position specifically under the union. I had an interview with ExEd in West LA yesterday for Accounting Analyst. Today, I had an interview with USC for Accounting/Cash Managing/Database system.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Confusing I know. I will tell you regarding USC, I feel blessed: About 200 applicants were screened by HR and passed onto the Hiring Manager. The Hiring Manager has interviewed 10 people so far.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

To be quite honest, the fact that I interviewed with USC is pretty cool. Of course, my expectations aren’t parked there. I will do my best preparing for each interview but whatever happens, happens and I will be grateful no matter what!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Moving on to the non-serious aspect… uhm, is this weird to you?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I was just wondering if anyone else thought it weird.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Oh I’m also wondering who else gets Columbus Day as a Holiday? I do. I think it’s weird since we don’t observe Veteran’s Day but then again we also celebrate Cesar Chavez day.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining.. Give me all the Holidays you want! I’ll take them! 🙂

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Oh goodness this LA weather is crazy! It rained Mon, Tues, and Wednesday. Today, Friday its about 85 degrees outside.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Sorry, my brain is moving quite slowly while thinking of all the randomness that’s happened in my life. I’m still stuck on interview mode and today’s interview was at least 45 minutes which is the longest interview I’ve been through.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Granted I’m enjoying polishing my speaking skills and thinking on my feet. This is as close as it’s getting in a classroom setting for me, at least for now.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Can i just say I love blogging?! It’s quite therapeutic for me. 🙂

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I must say, my faithful readers and commentors (is that a word? What’s the proper term for that?)… I appreciate YOU! Yes, you! Whenever I see a comment it makes me feel quite special. Not to mention I love reading YOUR blog as well!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Well its leave at 3pm day because of the expected Holiday traffic. I must finish things up before I leave.

Oh and those of you who live in LA & Orange County.. it’s flashing all over the freeways. Child Abduction.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Have a most wonderful weekend! I’m hoping to capture some parking fail pictures this weekend 🙂

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Hopefully I don’t encounter anymore random bathroom flushing signs…

Proof I’m BROWN!

Just kidding, just because I’m wearing Filipino cultural dress doesn’t mean I really am Filipino BROWN.

I just felt like putting that as my title!

Not that I’m not Filipino BROWN, because I totally am.

Anyway, enjoy the cultural dress…

LA County Fair

Friday, I went to the LA County Fair.

I must interject, the weather has been absolutely horrendous last week 2/7 days were cold/gloomy days. The rest of the days were 80-100 degree weather!Today I feel like a piece of bacon cooking in a frying pan.

I involuntarily parked in the VIP area. I got lost in the parking lot and couldn’t find the general parking. It was already 10pm were they really going to do something about it? Just to let you know the parking lot is confusing.

We saw the animals.

Clydesdale Horse

My friend Sarah paid to ride the mechanical bull. She stayed on for about 3 minutes.

Sorry it's blurry.

I like being random and taking pictures with cardboard cut-outs to place my face in:

Chuckwagon Cut-outs

We didn’t eat the Chuckwagon BBQ but Bubba’s BBQ instead. This is about $13 we got 2 plates of these and shared it with 6 people- 2/6 were guys; 1/6 was my brother. We were full.

I went to the food counter to grab knives, forks, and napkins for everyone. The guy at the counter told me I could take the whole thing. I told him, “Sure I’d sell these utensils for $0.25 each.”

I’m assuming a girl trying to get a guy would ask if one could take him.. sorry buddy, you’re trying with the wrong girl.

Just smile and walk away…

Yummy...

We also walked around the shops…I sent this picture to my sister, she said I should buy it for my dad’s birthday. I decided not to.

My brother thinks I'm weird. Now you do too 🙂

My friend bought a fried Klondike bar. I had some but I couldn’t taste the chocolate or the ice cream. I just tasted the fried mixture stuff. I do love fried ice cream though so I’m pretty sure a fried Klondike bar would be amazing.

Fried Klondike Bar

There were more fried stuff you could buy…

I’m not quite sure how you can deep-fry cheesecake…

We also stumbled upon this…

Bacon fetish...

Yes, chocolate covered bacon. I had to interrogate someone about this. Upon further investigation, they are already packaged. They are refrigerated. Can I just say GROSS! Cold bacon?! Oh and the picture looked like regular potato chips just imagine them as chocolate chips. (Sorry, no picture it was dark and the sign background of the bacon chocolate picture was yellow.) I didn’t ask about the bacon wrapped Oreos. I would have probably thrown up…

We ended the night with funnel cake. I didn’t think I needed to take a picture since those were one of the normal things people eat. 🙂

Welcome to my Randomness XV

I got an email from him… and now I feel like not replying forever.

Well, maybe not forever but at least a month or month and a half.

Is that bad?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I’ve not spent any money so far, unless you count gas but that’s doesn’t count, I think. At least, I’m saying it doesn’t.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Going to the LA County fair today after 5pm because it’s only $5. My friend works there so we’ll do the whole employee parking deal woowoo!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Oh got my first AWARD from Marliz3e!

I’ve yet to tag 10 people, it’s coming! 🙂

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I’ve still not fully adjusted to being home. Sometimes I wonder if I’m supposed to be living in California if I have no friends in California. When I mean friends I mean the type of friends you can sporadically count on to meet you after work for an hour at Starbucks or grab dinner with when you get off work late.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Believe me I know somethings you plan for but somethings planning just doesn’t happen. Just saying…

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

This SoCal weather is weird one day this week I had my boots, leggings, and long sweater-type blouse. The next day I wore a polka-dot skirt, blouse, and peep-toe wedges. Is that supposed to happen that way?!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Volleyball games: so far still undefeated. The second game set we won the first and the second game we were down 10-20. We ended the game somewhere around 22-24 in our favor. It was intense!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Please take me away…

Preferably where this will be the sunset...

Thank you,

Melanie

We love food…

Enjoy food pictures from our family vacation:

In N Out

For lunch we had In-N-Out, let me say a lettuce wrap is hard to enjoy without tomatoes, needless to say the juice from my burger was strictly from the patty and the sauce.

For dinner we went to Splash Cafe at Pismo Beach.

Of course, I didn’t get clam chowder because I can’t have soy, rye, etc.

Notice the tomatoes and carrots?

I had grilled chicken and veggies. I gave the “untouchables” to my mom and sister.

Saturday for lunch we gps-ed this place called Alex BBQ at Shell Beach.

My sister had a bbq pulled sandwich. It was good. I only had the meat though, no bread, ugh.

I didn't eat the french fries.

I had a bbq wrap. Infested with tomatoes, I had asked for no tomatoes since the wrap was sun-dried tomatoes. I didn’t have a reaction since I took Benadryl afterwards, luckily.

Can't you just taste it?!

My brother and dad shared ribs. It was juicy, moist, sweet, so good. 🙂

We drove to Morrow Bay afterward. As always it was foggy. They had a farmer’s market. We walked around, tried different organic fruits, sampled organic drinks. At the end of the Farmer’s Market, Kettle Korn greeted us!

Kettle Corn-medium bag $5

The bag fed all 5 in my family including the trash can, aka John, my brother.

JOCKO's

Sunday lunch we went to Jocko’s Steakhouse in Nipomo.

Oh minor detail we got there at 1:30 the wait time: 1 hour-2hours. We waited an hour.

My parents got the Spencer-steak. It was amazing! We tried some 🙂

My sister and I shared the pork chops.

Pork chops, rice, and apple sauce.

We could have shared it with John and there would have been leftovers.

The orders came with veggie plate (pickles, banana peppers, carrots, celery, and olives)  salad, bread, beans, and dessert for each person at the table.

_    _    _    _    _    _    _    _    _    _    _

Last Sunday we went to Sakura of Tokyo in West Covina for a surprise dinner.

The hosts had ordered the boat to be shared with four people. First they brought out miso soup. Then California rolls-2 each person. Then came the boat. It was literally a boat.

Boatload of Food-Sakura of Tokyo. Taken by panorama.

The boat had fried chicken with sesame seeds, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, and tempura-shrimp, zucchini, green beans, and squash.
