CHRISTMAS: Got to mix things up a bit… Part 3 of 3

CHRISTMAS DAY.

At Cousin J, Cousin Jo, and Cousin Jul’s house. They are losing their house 😦

The Ladies...

Smiles

Aw, precious ... Their wedding is in July.

Eating

They had time to fall asleep ... lucky!

Now… the purpose of the 3 part post of Christmas day.

The Mystery Machine.

This van used to be ours. I remember car-pooling in that miracle van since 3rd grade. We extended family used the miracle van for all of our excursions. It held ALL of us. In later elementary my dad gave it to my uncle. I completely forgot about the van until it made a miracolous appearance 🙂

Of course we needed to take a picture with it!

Did I mention we love to mimic Forever 21 poses?

Apparently some of them are still on the Forever 21 pose.

For these next pictures… you’re going to see the angle change. In order to get the van with everyone in it and to have the flash actually make an effect on the picture my sister had to place the camera in the middle of the street. By the way, the “town” we were in is called Richgrove; population: 2000 approximate. My cousins happen to live on the last street of the town.

So camera in the middle of the street my aunt is watching for any oncoming cars. It’s supposed to take 3 pictures on self-timer.

Maybe now you know why I’m so random and crazy, kind of 🙂

CHRISTMAS: Got to mix things up a bit… Part 2 of 3

Missed the first part? Read here!

Continuing on from my last post…

Now everyone wants to go outside. Play some basketball. Etc.

I’m looking for my boots to join them… I can’t find them! I see other brown boots that are NOT mine.

I give up looking and stay inside to join the older folks with the karaoke. (I hear you: typical.)

They also went caroling without me. (New tradition)

They went next door and were given $4 for their crooning serenade.

Such manners… as they relayed the information my bro J took the money. Cousin Ry yells “SCORE!” as they’re walking away… Someone also adds “JACKPOT!” to the shouts of surprise and thanks…

Apparently, there were some cute guys in the audience mix. To console myself by missing the cute guys sighting… I say… “Oh well they’re [Cousin Jul & sister D] still in college they’re probably like 19s.”

Cousin Jul: No! They were in college. Cousin J saw them to!

Cousin J: Yeah.. they were cute.

Cousin Jo: MAN! I missed it.

Me: Were they black?

Cousin Jo: You like them bros?!

Me/Cousin J: Duh, she dated a black guy for 2 years…

Cousin Jo: dude! I didn’t even know you like them bros!

Me: Uhm, yeah! Lol. FOUND OUT! Hahaha.

Somehow the conversation steered back to the cute guys.

Cousin Jul: I didn’t even notice them because an old guy answered the door and there was little kids running around.

Me: How do you know it’s not their kids?!

Cousin Jul: It’s probably their cousins!

Me: Oh no. I’m not signing up for no baby mama title.

Cousin Chuck: Oh yeah.. that’s what they were looking for. Good thing you didn’t go Mel.

Cousin Jul: You guys are so messed up!

And with that conversation we wrapped things up at this house and proceeded to say our goodbyes, hugs, and “see you tomorrows” to everyone…

Packed up for the next house. It was 7:30 pm.

And what did we do?

Can you tell we love taking pictures together?

Cousin J and Cousin Jo

Sister wanted to be in the picture too!

When the tripod is setup; more people can get in the picture

Yes, we are weird and random. Ok, just me 🙂

At this house we continued our gift opening from this family.

We continued our caroling to random people (my cousin’s friends).

One more post left 🙂

Sushi Time…

Wednesday night I took my brother out for some sushi…am I not such an awesome sister? Anyway, it doesn’t matter that I was craving sushi so he benefited; I did offer.

So! We went to Haru Sushi in West Covina across the Westfield West Covina mall.

I didn’t remember to take pictures until the first roll was almost done.  I know, fail.

Caterpillar Roll: Eel and avocado on top and shrimp tempura inside.

I don't remember the name of the other roll. Avocado on top, spicy tuna and shrimp tempura inside.

Sunday Lunch Shogun at La Verne. Treated my friend Courtney for her birthday and Dar wanted to be consoled since the rest of the family is out-of-town for the week on vacation.

Kamikaze Roll: Top-avocado Inside-spicy tuna, cucumber, and california roll.

Half the roll had sweet sauce the other half was spicy. Yummy!

I also ordered a spider roll. It was absolute fail. The crab tempura helpings were minimal. It got lost in the california roll.

As you can see…all of the rolls have the sweet eel sauce. Mhmmm yummy. I have to because I can’t have soy sauce, LOL.

Any sushi lovers? What’s your favorite roll?

So much for remembering…

My brother’s football tournament was today.

My brother asked me to print off directions for my dad. Before I left for work.

I did. I couldn’t remember exact directions from the last time I dropped off my brother. So I went on google maps.  Instead of giving the bare minimum of directions based off google maps. I wrote extra stuff down, i.e. pass Ramona Blvd don’t pass Central. 2.1 miles from your last turn, etc.

When I handed my dad the directions I relayed the information I wrote down with a bit more detail. “You’ll pass Ramona and you keep going straight. It will look like you’re lost but you’re not. Monte Vista will be a small street-you’ll stop at a stop sign, etc.” My dad says, “Yeah, I’ll remember when we get closer.”

Fast forward 10 minutes…

My dad and brother are in the truck pulling out the driveway…

I’m in the kitchen getting ready to leave as well.

Hm, there’s this sheet of paper with my hand-writing on it…

OH MY GOODNESS! It’s the directions!

Hurrying out the door to catch them…I shake my head as my dad is smiling as he opens the car door.

Fast forward 30 minutes….

I randomly check my phone for any messages as I’m getting ready to exit the freeway

I got a missed call from John.

My thoughts: “Oh dear…what now?”

John: Never mind…we’re here.

I walk into my office and check my phone.

Text message from John: Nvm we found it lol we had to make 2 U-turn; haha.

So much for remembering…

Funny e-mail from my mom:

As soon as this happens…..

Retire with dignity…

Proof I’m BROWN!

Just kidding, just because I’m wearing Filipino cultural dress doesn’t mean I really am Filipino BROWN.

I just felt like putting that as my title!

Not that I’m not Filipino BROWN, because I totally am.

Anyway, enjoy the cultural dress…

Hey! It’s MELANIE

Remember when I said my sister was going to take pictures of me during our family vacation?

I lied, we never got to do that. We did squeeze in a very pretty family picture of the gorgeous view that looks like a fake background 🙂

Avila Beach

She was however able to take pictures after my dad’s party….

looking at these pictures, I probably should have put make-up on to define features alot more but eh, maybe next time. I literally mean MAYBE.

Welcome to my Randomness XVI

This Los Angeles weather is insane!

Saturday & Sunday: High 90’s

Monday: Record-breaking high of 113, it’s the last week of September!

I officially know how a piece of bacon feels as its being fried in oil.

Tuesday: 100s

Wednesday: 100’s did I mention it was spitting as I drove home from work?

Thursday:  high 90’s and humid not to mention in La Verne there was thunder, lightning, and rain. On my way home I felt like I was living back in SC with monsoon type winds.

Friday: I awake to the sound of thunder clasps and noticed the sun was beaming its heavenly rays!

Confession: I have failed miserably this week regarding my spending fast.

Volleyball update: We didn’t sweep last week. The team was completely off last week. Not to mention, the gym was unbearably miserable to play in because of the ridiculous heat! We started our first game with 5 players-put us in a bind. We got through it and won all three games. The second game was a bit harder. We won the set 2/3. For the third game I served about 8 points within 3 minutes, all over hand. I was pretty proud of myself considering I haven’t been able to exercise my over-hand serve much.

My sister told me she found a mustard colored trench coat the same style as my white trench coat. It’s 24.99 ugh. Should I or should I not?!

HELP!

Not that mustard is my favorite color but I like the way it looks on me. So far, I’m on the lookout for mustard colored peep-toe wedges. I think that would be cute. I would love to have a mustard color purse, as well.

Ever get that need to leave for a few days to clear your mind and refocus? Yes? Great, because I would love to do that right now.

Actually not a few days, I would like a sabbatical, please. I’m 22 and need a sabbatical?! Something is wrong with me! Or is that normal?

Oh and my next post will be #100 and Malize will be taking over for that post. She had let me be a guest blogger on her blog and my post also happened to be #100 for which she was waiting to throw a big party and involuntarily forfeited that #100th post to me. So we traded #100 post.

I was really surprised as to how much positive feedback I got regarding my Facebook post. I was prepping myself for some serious ‘hate comments’ lol. I probably should not speak too early but so far, I’ve had great feedback. Thanks guys!

Lately, my imagination has been going crazy. I was on my lunch break parked underneath a tree in the park and there was a guy  parked in front of me chilling as well. Five minutes later a white van pulled up in front of his car. The guy came out of his car, went to his truck pulled out a brief case and hopped into the white van. Hm…what’s going on there?!

Yesterday as I was driving back to work from making deposits, I heard a little girl screaming at the top of her lungs as she was walking next to this lady, maybe her aunt? I believe her mom was walking in front of her and the little girl’s sister. What was she screaming? I HATE YOU! I want it now! I HATE YOU!

Goodness gracious? What did the child want? Did she want ice-cream, she want to stop by the store? Did her mom say she couldn’t go to a friend’s house? Keep it up Mom! Don’t succumb and I hope you dealt with that child when you got home!

I have never thought of yelling let alone muttering under my breath I hate my parents. Such sadness.

LA County Fair

Friday, I went to the LA County Fair.

I must interject, the weather has been absolutely horrendous last week 2/7 days were cold/gloomy days. The rest of the days were 80-100 degree weather!Today I feel like a piece of bacon cooking in a frying pan.

I involuntarily parked in the VIP area. I got lost in the parking lot and couldn’t find the general parking. It was already 10pm were they really going to do something about it? Just to let you know the parking lot is confusing.

We saw the animals.

Clydesdale Horse

My friend Sarah paid to ride the mechanical bull. She stayed on for about 3 minutes.

Sorry it's blurry.

I like being random and taking pictures with cardboard cut-outs to place my face in:

Chuckwagon Cut-outs

We didn’t eat the Chuckwagon BBQ but Bubba’s BBQ instead. This is about $13 we got 2 plates of these and shared it with 6 people- 2/6 were guys; 1/6 was my brother. We were full.

I went to the food counter to grab knives, forks, and napkins for everyone. The guy at the counter told me I could take the whole thing. I told him, “Sure I’d sell these utensils for $0.25 each.”

I’m assuming a girl trying to get a guy would ask if one could take him.. sorry buddy, you’re trying with the wrong girl.

Just smile and walk away…

Yummy...

We also walked around the shops…I sent this picture to my sister, she said I should buy it for my dad’s birthday. I decided not to.

My brother thinks I'm weird. Now you do too 🙂

My friend bought a fried Klondike bar. I had some but I couldn’t taste the chocolate or the ice cream. I just tasted the fried mixture stuff. I do love fried ice cream though so I’m pretty sure a fried Klondike bar would be amazing.

Fried Klondike Bar

There were more fried stuff you could buy…

I’m not quite sure how you can deep-fry cheesecake…

We also stumbled upon this…

Bacon fetish...

Yes, chocolate covered bacon. I had to interrogate someone about this. Upon further investigation, they are already packaged. They are refrigerated. Can I just say GROSS! Cold bacon?! Oh and the picture looked like regular potato chips just imagine them as chocolate chips. (Sorry, no picture it was dark and the sign background of the bacon chocolate picture was yellow.) I didn’t ask about the bacon wrapped Oreos. I would have probably thrown up…

We ended the night with funnel cake. I didn’t think I needed to take a picture since those were one of the normal things people eat. 🙂

Is this your parking spot?!

My brother asked if I drove around parking lots looking for people who don’t know how to park. No, actually I went to El Pollo Loco to use the bathroom because I was about to do the need to use the bathroom dance.

I happened to stumble upon this talented driver…
